Yellowrose

"My Rose Garden Dreams"

We're heading fast into fall, and come September, I always think golden tones of yellow, alongside the changing greenery. Today's dress is a vintage 1950s gown, probably worn by a debutante for a special occasion. I fell in love with this piece because it's not only romantic with roses, but it has a big bustle in the back, fit for a Belle. It features intricate layers of tiers, featuring flocked golden roses, and scalloped edges. My main inspiration for this look was Rita Marlowe, Jayne Mansfield's character in "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter." Rita wears colorful pastels throughout (including a rich, golden, yellow) and in one scene, dons ribbons in her hair. In a sunlit garden encompassed by butter yellow roses, there's no other perfect setting for such a dress!

➽ Style Tip:
With such a statement dress, go simpler up top. I usually like to go heavy with my hair, but a big, ballgown is enough of a look, and in this case: less is more. When doing any vintage hair style, the hair shrinks to appear shorter, which was what I wanted, to showcase the lovely decollete details of the bust and shoulders.
